Good books to read on vacation?
I like science-fiction/romance/adventure…well, I guess that I actually just like anything that is interesting and gets me hooked.

Some of my favorites are:

Memoirs of a Geisha
The Secret Life of Bees
The Hunger Games
GREGOR THE OVERLANDER (awesome-you should definitely read the series-its by Suzanne Collins)
The Help
The Princess Bride
House of the Scorpion
The Mortal Instruments
Life As We Knew It

Sorry for the long list, there are just so many! If you can think of any books like these ones, that would be amazing. Thanks!

If you liked Gregor the Overlander, you MUST read Hunger Games! You probably already know that Suzanne Collins is an excellent author and have read it, so I will suggest a few more.

The Morganville Vampire books by Rachel Caine were very soap opera-ish. I thought they were perfect because they are quick to get into, and definitely keep the pages turning. I read these when I went to Australia/ New Zealand for a month.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini takes a few chapters to get into, but then it sweeps you away. (Just a warning: the 4th book isn’t out yet, so you’ll reach the end of book three and be all frustrated that you can’t keep reading).

the Study books by Rachel V. Snyder are very interesting. One of the few series that my husband got so into, he couldn’t put it down.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer was in my opinion much better than the Twilight series. I think it was just more appealing to an adult.

Nokosee: Rise of the New Seminole by Micco Mann. It has the defiant voice of a 17 year old girl who manages to overcome everything thrown at her in the course of the novel which is a lot– and she does it in a way that would make all girls proud– not in a superhuman way or through the assistance of some heroic act of a man but via her own means.
http://bit.ly/NokoseeKobo

Cherry by Mary Karr. A memoir about teens, sex, drugs and growing up in rural Texas as told through the gritty, beautiful prose of one of America’s best authors.
http://bit.ly/CherryKarr

The Liar’s Club by Mary Karr. Another moving memoir recounting her earlier years (you should probably read this one first and then Cherry).
http://bit.ly/LiarsClub

She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb. Begins with the life of a school girl with no friends and follows her through many wrong turns until she makes a right one and finds love. The book gives us one of the most memorable characters in literature: Dolores Price.
http://bit.ly/ShesCome

The People by Zenna Henderson are psychically gifted extraterrestrials who look like humans. They become stranded on Earth after their starship crashes during a space migration they refer to as the Crossing. What transpires is an engaging look at us meeting them in a desert town in Arizona. The series inspired Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary 1972 TV movie starring Kim Darby and William Shatner. I say "legendary" because it hasn’t been officially released as a DVD and only exists as a subpar, blurry VHS memory (http://www.amazon.com/People-1972-USA-Ki m-Darby/dp/B001GE2CFA). That’s too bad because from what I heard from people who saw the original on TV nearly 40 years ago , it was magical– just like the books.
Twenty-ten ain’t lookin’ so bright
Its been a month
I’ve fought several fights
Can’t help but think what this year will bring
Will it bring me joy?
Or will it bring me pain?

This new decade,
Will slowly fade
blocked by my minds barricades

I know this year will speed on by
Like previous ones
I don’t know why
I’m hoping to make the best of what I can
To live each day one by one

This new decade,
Will slowly fade
blocked by my minds barricades

I wont let these bastards stand in my way

Have you read the latest Christian Breaking News about Haiti?
Voodoo priest’s son leads Haitians to Christ

Posted on Feb 2, 2010 | by Tristan Taylor
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (BP)–On a hot afternoon in a crowded, makeshift camp in Port-au-Prince, Jean Junior Cineas sits under a tarp suspended by a broomstick. He shares his faith with five Haitians left homeless after the Jan. 12 earthquake rocked their island nation. Soon, all five pray to receive Christ as their Savior.

The irony: Cineas is the son of a voodoo priest.

"It gives me joy to [share Christ]," Cineas says as he moves through the rows of tents. "I love to do that. It is my life."

Cineas, 26, who prefers to go by Junior, has had plenty of opportunities to share his faith since disaster struck. He says voodoo’s influence has diminished and many Haitians are now calling on God.

"There are a lot of people who came to Jesus from voodoo …," Junior says. "I heard that during the earthquake, my father called on Jesus. He said ‘Oh Jesus. I know what You can do.’ But I wasn’t there. I do not know if it’s true."

Some Haitians were awed by the power displayed in the earthquake — a power greater than anything they see in voodoo, Junior says. Others are grateful to have survived and want to give their lives to the God who saved them. It is rare for Junior to meet someone who does not want to be prayed for or to hear about his faith.

And much like the Apostle Paul, Junior helps disciple those he leads to Christ. He plans to buy five Creole-language Bibles and return to the tent city to teach his five new friends to study God’s Word.

The transformation of Junior and many of his countrymen has not come easily, though.

Junior grew up in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti, in a family immersed in voodoo religion. In Haiti, Voodoo is a mixture of Catholicism and African Traditional Religion and deeply rooted in the culture. Like most voodoo priests, Junior’s father has multiple wives and so many children that Junior doesn’t know them all. He was alienated from his family early on when his father’s wives rejected him and made him live in a peristyle (voodoo temple) in the yard.

Junior grew up not knowing his mother — she died when he was young — but he knew what his future held. He was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a voodoo priest.

"I didn’t know [all that my father knew about] voodoo — but what I knew, I loved," Junior says.

Much of his childhood revolved around voodoo and learning about its mysticism. But he also learned about the darker, dangerous parts — the belief in the ability to kill people by sending evil spirits.

"If you believe in it, you can understand it," Junior says. "I used to understand it, but now I know Jesus. I know [evil spirits] cannot hurt me now, because I have Jesus."

Junior’s future changed at age 16 when an International Mission Board missionary visited his father’s house. The Southern Baptist missionary told Bible stories, and Junior heard the Gospel for the first time. His father did not accept the stories and continued to practice voodoo, but he gave Junior permission to become a Christian.

"I love God so much," Junior says with a smile. "How can I explain?"

He began ministering with the missionary, helping tell Bible stories to fellow Haitians. Before long, Junior’s father changed his mind — he no longer wanted his son to be a Christian. Junior’s new faith began causing conflict in his father’s house.

"It was very difficult for me," he says. "I prayed for God to take me away from that family."

When his missionary friend returned to the United States, Junior met IMB missionaries Mark and Peggy Rutledge in Port-au-Prince — and found a new family. He was able to escape tensions and voodoo activity at home by staying with the Rutledges on weekends. When Junior finished high school, their house became his new home.

"Peggy and Mark are my family," he says. "I owe them everything in my life. Without knowing me, they took me into their home. I love them so much."

Living with the Rutledges and their two daughters, Junior experienced a loving home with both a mother and a father for the first time.

"Peggy showed me what is mother," Junior says in broken English. "Before, I didn’t know mother. I didn’t call anyone mother. Now I know what a mother is like."

"Junior became like our son and a big brother to our girls," says Peggy, referring to daughters Shannon, 14, and Abi, 11. "As he lived with us, we tried to disciple him and show him what a Christian family is all about. We saw so much potential in him. We grew to love him as part of our family."

Junior also learned about living in a home that worships a loving God.

"He was part of our family Bible studies and often he sat in when we did Bible study with the girls [during their homeschooling]," Peggy says. "He began devouring God’s Word. He loved it. And like all of us, he went through rough patches in life, where God was teaching him things that might be diffi

 Awesome! Wonderful news!

Did you hear about the man that they just rescued today? Yes- a man was found today, still alive, after four weeks trapped in rubble. This has got to be miraculous enough to raise the brow of even the most jaded skeptic on earth.

The man said that he kept seeing a man "dressed in a white coat" who kept coming to give him water periodically. I believe that it was an angel. God saved this man’s life!

Rashes on my thighs? Are these skis allergies, please help?
So, our field trip was at an amusement park. There’s this ride (It’s like the Grizzly River Run in Disneyland) where you ride on a raft then in floats around the rapids and everyone gets wet a lot. We rode it 3 times and I never bothered to change my clothes because it was sunny and it dried immediately. I was really stupid, I just wished I had changed my clothes because I think the water reacted on my skin. Now I’ve got these itchy mosquito bites look alike all around my thighs. My crotch area is beginning to itch too and I can’t seem to stop scratching even after told not to.

Are there any treatments you could suggest, I can’t stand it anymore! It’s summer season now in where I live and mosquitoes are everywhere!

 Not sure what that is.
First Namesgdssehfdeh | Feb 07, 2010

If the problem were an allergic reaction to your wet clothing, then you’d have large patches of redness and itching. But it sounds as if you have "bite" looking spots. One of my thoughts is that you have swimmer’s itch, except that is caused by the stings of jellyfish larvae (and I"m not sure about the source of the water in your ride.) Another thought is "hot tub folliculitis" which is caused by a bacterial infection of the hair follicles, from exposure to water which is not disinfected enough. This disorder will generally be self limited and go away on its own. Did anyone else develop a similar eruption? If so, you should alert the park, b/c they’ll need to purify their water better.
zitdr_02 | Feb 07, 2010

Treat it with anti-itch medication to stop yourself from itching your crotch…
what about faux fur? no fur at all? what about leather?

I wear leather, but that’s only if the skin is harvested from already slaughtered animals (like for food), i mean, killing an animal JUST for their skin or fur is bad.

that is very respectful of you but…how do you KNOW the leather already comes from slaughtered animals? the last time i looked at a tag, it didn’t specify. im not being ugly, i really want to know because i would do the same thing.

i have several leather belts and i am required to wear leather shoes due to the chemicals at my school.

Men, would you ever consider getting your private part enlarged or resculpted?
(I am trying to keep it clean here)

What about if you had one sticking out from each shoulder and you could see it’s entire outline through your clothes ?

Would you consider this to be a shallow thing to do ? Do you think that those of you with small penises ought to just be proud that you are small and not care what anyone thinks because it’s not important and getting it made bigger would be really fake.
Even if people constantly told you that you were not very manly or even a "12 year old girl/boy"
Yeah but you see my point is that a pair of shoulder penis’ need not be small. The mere fact that it would be ‘out there’ might lead to insecurity and perhaps a want for it to be resculpted into the most perfect shape, or just to be bigger, even if it isn’t small but normal.
Arlo wtf?

No it isn’t about sex. I am saying if your private part was visible for all to see , on display all the time, being judged not sexually but being told you are not a real man etc. By other men, women, the media etc. I am not talking about for the purposes of sex.

As if its already not big enough…I have a hard time maneuvering my pants throughout the day…and feels sore by evening.

Jesus christ how big do women want it???
I watched the "Body shock" programme regarding this topic, so the answer is definitely NO!!!
Less than 20% success rate and you can only gain up to half an inch if it is.
If it is unsuccessful then it will probably never "work" properly again.
Well I’ll never know what it’s like to have them sticking out from my chest, so I can’t answer that one.

But no, I would never consider having it altered in any way, I think that’s shallow and a little too concerned with sex. I think we should all feel comfortable with our bodies, and if it’s valid for women to say men are brainwashing them by making them feel inadequate for having small breasts, then I think it’s just as valid for men to say women are brainwashing men with regards to penis size. I’m not overly big or anything, but I’m comfortable with my size and I’m not pathetic enough to change it just to make a woman happy. Or pathetic enough to think that any woman who cares about size is worth being with.

Also, the vagina is designed to adjust to the size of the penis. That’s why it starts out being super tight when the girl is a virgin. If a girl is unhappy with your penis size, it just means she’s been with too many guys. That’s something bad about her, not you.

EDIT: Yes, as I said in the first paragraph, I’m not in that situation so I can’t begin to address it. What exactly is your point about that? Are you saying women have it harder than men because theirs is visible to everyone?
Of course they wouldn’t.

It is also true that if the woman had the first baby and the man had to have the second baby there would probably only be three kids in each family.
No, much like breast implants in women can cause loss of sensation so can penis implants in men. And size is not worth having an organic strap-on.
